Stand Atlantic's second album, Pink Elephant, is FINALLY here! And yes, we recommend that you play it on repeat!
You can listen to the whole album here, with the music videos here:
The first single was Hate Me (Sometimes), available in last September, followed by Shh! in February, Drink to Drownin April and Wavelength in May. All this foreshadowed an EP of 3 or 4 songs, given the similar design of the last three singles.
But Jurassic Park hit our ears at the same time as the announcement of the new album Pink Elephant with its release date. Previous singles will be featured on the album, featuring 11 tracks. General panic, we weren't ready!
But that's it, here we are, we could already listen to more than half of the songs on the album (with the release of Blurry two days ago), but what a pleasure to discover the 5 new songs:
Tracklist
1. Like That
2. Shh!
3. Blurry
4. Jurassic Park
5. Eviligo
6. Wavelength
7. Drink to Drown
8. DWYW
9. Silk & Satin
10. Soap
11. Hate Me (Sometimes)
From the start, the band gives us Like That, a punchy and dynamic song, whose genre is quite similar to Hate Me (Sometimes), Shh! or Jurassic Park. We find them of course on DWYW, with a happy musical base and a robotic voice, or on Soap.
Then we discover Eviligo, with a very surprising instrumental base on the verses but with a chorus where we recognize the style of Stand Atlantic. Silk & Satin is also completely different right from the start from their usual style, with a mostly electronic instrumental base. The two songs are rather surprising at first but are really great!
In an interview with Rock Sound, the singer Bonnie Fraser revealed why the album was titled Pink Elephant:
"Basically it’s the combination of two ideas. One is that saying ‘The elephant in the room’ and the other is ‘Pink elephant’ referring to delirium and being spaced out. So the idea is addressing the elephants in your room in your life and having the conversations that maybe you don’t want to have but you know by having them you’re going to end up much better for it. And if you don’t have them, these things can morph into something that they weren’t ever to begin with. We’re just highlighting the point that if you need to say something, fucking say it because otherwise you’re going to turn it into something else and it will be not what it was in the first place. It’s going to be even harder."
She’s pretty right, huh?
In short, Pink Elephant is as successful as their first album (difficult challenge), if not even more. They explore new genres while putting their own signature, which gives us masterpieces. Let’s play it on repeat.
